The SMART project focuses on promoting Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices among MEs, aiming to improve environmental sustainability, enhance productivity, and build climate resilience. The project comprises three major components: enabling capacity and systems for green growth, providing access to finance, and improving project management and knowledge dissemination.

The SMART project is providing financial and technical assistance, access to safe inputs and services, technology transfer, mechanization of farms and processing plants, production of processed goods, certification of products, and marketing of agricultural, fisheries, and livestock products to the project participants through selective Partners Organizations.
The project is led by the Project Coordinator Gokul Chandra Biswas, General Manager (Program), PKSF. Also, the Managing Director of PKSF and the Additional Managing Director of PKSF are supporting the PC for the smooth operation of this project.
The project will operate nationwide, with a special emphasis on areas particularly vulnerable to climate change-related shocks. The interventions are structured across 3 business areas, 9 sectors, and 21 sub-sectors.
Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) refers to the continuous application of preventive environmental strategies towards processes, products and services in order to increase the efficiency with which they use materials, water, and energy, to improve their productivity and, thus, their competitiveness. Its application leads to a reduction in the amount of pollution and waste generated and reduces threats and risks for humans and the environment.
The SMART project focuses on expanding business opportunities for microenterprises by providing access to finance, prioritizing investments in climate-resilient Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices.
This component expands technical assistance to 80,000 microenterprises to enhance their knowledge and capacity in climate-resilient Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices. It will adopt a more institutionalized approach by conducting assessments on technical resource efficiency, environmental and climate adaptation technologies, and environmental impacts.
The SMART project emphasizes the importance of building capacity among various stakeholders to ensure the effective adoption of climate-resilient Resource Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices. The project provides targeted capacity-building support and training to microenterprises and Partner Organizations to enhance their technical knowledge and operational efficiency in a climate-resilient context.
The SMART project prioritizes the generation, management, and dissemination of knowledge among all project participants, including PMU staff, PO staff, and MEs. The aim is to maximize learning, capture achievements, and document lessons learned through various forms such as analytical studies, communications, radio interviews, and instructional videos.
The SMART project has a robust Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) system which is designed to ensure effective project oversight and continuous learning. This system integrates both results-based monitoring and periodic assessment of adopting the Resource-Efficient and Cleaner Production (RECP) practices at microenterprise level, providing comprehensive insights into project progress.
The SMART Project prioritizes knowledge dissemination and learning. To this end, we produce a range of publications that document our interventions, success stories, and best practices, contributing to the broader knowledge base on microenterprise development and sustainable practices.
